This program is delivered in a hybrid format, however, most courses are in person. The program is offered at multiple locations, including: Brantford, Guelph (Riverside Glen), Waterloo (University Gates), Stratford, Milton (Steeles Avenue), and Kitchener (Doon). Admissions are accepted through each location.

Personal Support Worker

At StudyHealthcare.ca, our Personal Support Worker (PSW) program is designed to prepare compassionate, career-ready professionals who make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals across all stages of life. PSWs are essential members of the healthcare team, delivering person-centered care in a wide range of settings including long-term care facilities, hospitals, and home or community environments. Through our comprehensive curriculum, students gain the knowledge and practical skills to support individuals with their daily living activities, including personal care, nutrition, home management, and family responsibilities. The program emphasizes safe, respectful, and responsive care, especially for individuals with complex needs such as cognitive challenges, responsive behaviors, or end-of-life care.

To enroll in the Health Care Assistant Program, applicants must meet the following requirements

Academic Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or an equivalent credential
    OR
  • Be 19 years of age or older and qualify for mature student status.

English Proficiency

  • Completion of Grade 12 English (C or U level) or an equivalent
    OR
  • Completion of a college-level communications course such as Preparatory Communications (COMM1251) or an approved equivalent

Important Note on Background Checks

All students are strongly encouraged to obtain a clear Police Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) before starting the program. Completion of work-integrated learning (WIL) components—including practicum placements—is mandatory and requires a successful VSS.Students without a clear VSS will not be eligible to complete the program.

International Students

If your academic credentials are from outside Canada, a course-by-course credential evaluation is required. Evaluations can be completed through a recognized agency such as:

  • ICAS (International Credential Assessment Service of Canada)
  • WES (World Education Services)
    Alternatively, applicants can request an evaluation through our Assessment of International Credentials process. Apply for credential evaluation online.

English Language Proficiency

Applicants from institutions where English is not the primary language of instruction must demonstrate proficiency through an approved English language test. Please refer to our English Language Requirements page for accepted tests and minimum scores.

  • An academic strength is calculated by averaging the submitted marks of required subjects. If more than one mark is received for a required subject, the highest mark will be used in the calculation.
  • Ten (10) additional marks are added for each Advanced Level, OAC, U, U/C, and post-secondary course used in the calculation of academic strength.
  • A sound English background is important for success in this program and is considered during the admissions selection process. Minimum cutoffs may apply.
